Shrub Trimming & Pruning

Shrub trimming or pruning is essential for the shrubs found on your property. When maintained and pruned regularly, shrubs can display their true character, size, and shape. Shrub trimming also allows it to reach its optimal flowering and health potential. Our experienced pruning crews at Lynch Landscape & Tree Service, Inc. will make each cut with the plant’s health in mind.

When trimming or pruning shrubs, there are several types of pruning practices worth examining:

Renewal trimming

One of the most common approaches to maintaining beautiful and healthy shrubs involves trimming and removing approximately one-fourth of mature stems near the shrub’s base. By thinning the base, we allow the shrub to keep its shape and character while allowing additional sunlight to reach the base area. Like all other plants, most shrubs require sunlight to produce healthy foliage and growth.

Selective trimming

Shrubs in your landscape have a natural size and shape that can be preserved through selective trimming and pruning. Precise cuts can be made near the branch collars, which utilize their inherent protective tissues. Selective trimming is also used to achieve specific aesthetics or remove dead, dying, or diseased branches.

Shearing

Unfortunately, shearing has become more common, especially in commercial landscaping. Instead of removing the oldest branches, those dying of disease and decay, or a possible crowded area near the shrub base, shearing controls the height surrounding the shrub and causes the death of healthy limbs and shoots.
